Anthony V. Hong to Head Hawaiian Duragreen Operations
Named General Manager for Maui Composite Panel Board Plant

PU‘UNENE, MAUI – Anthony V. Hong has been appointed to the position of general manager of Hawaiian Duragreen, Inc., the Alexander & Baldwin, Inc. (NASDAQ:ALEX) subsidiary which will manufacture, on Maui, a premium composite panel board, using bagasse (cane fiber), a byproduct of A&B's Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar Company (HC&S) agricultural crop. Hong will report to A&B Vice President and HC&S Plantation General Manager G. Stephen Holaday, who serves as Hawaiian Duragreen's president. Hong, 33, was previously a vice president-operations at Amfac's Pioneer Mill on Maui. His responsibilities include the installation and operation of the $10 million manufacturing facility that will produce Hawaiian Duragreen, the trade name for the composite panel board. It is a strong, light, moisture-resistant, environmentally friendly substitute for conventional particle board and medium density fiberboard.

"We are pleased that Anthony has joined us in carrying out this significant and strategic initiative," said Holaday. "His engineering and business management experience is a valuable addition to our team. Hawaiian Duragreen will be a high-value additional product that enhances the value of our core crop."

Hong, who had worked for Amfac since 1994, also served as project manager for the Honolulu Shipyard, Inc. He was awarded a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, where he also pursued graduate level courses. Hong was raised on Oahu and has lived on Maui for nearly six years.

The Hawaiian Duragreen plant, an automated facility, will create more than 20 new jobs. It will be located in HC&S' existing sugar warehouse at Pu‘unene.

HC&S, which produces more than 60 percent of Hawaii’s sugar, is a division of Alexander & Baldwin, Inc. A&B’s other businesses include A&B Properties, Inc. and Matson Navigation Company, Inc. Additional information about HC&S and A&B may be found at websites www.hcsugar.com and www.alexanderbaldwin.com, respectively.
