Nelson N.S. Chun New VP/General Counsel at Alexander & Baldwin, Inc.

HONOLULU--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 24, 2003--Nelson N.S. Chun has been named vice president and general counsel for Alexander & Baldwin, Inc. (Nasdaq:ALEX) (A&B), starting in November. In this position, he will report directly to A&B's CEO and President Allen Doane. Prior to joining A&B, Chun had devoted his legal career to the Honolulu law firm Cades Schutte LLP, which he joined in 1978 and of which he had been a partner for the last twenty years.

Chun earned his law degree, cum laude, from Northwestern University School of Law, having previously earned a bachelor's degree, magna cum laude, from Claremont McKenna College. Chun is admitted to practice before all Hawaii courts, the United States Court for the District of Hawaii and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. His practice areas include general business counseling; formation and structuring of business entities, including corporations, limited liability companies and partnerships; real estate transactions; mergers and acquisitions; and health care.

Chun is a member of the American Bar Association and the Hawaii State Bar Association. His peers have elected him as one of "America's Best Lawyers" and as one of "America's Leading Business Lawyers" in the Chambers and Partners USA Guide.

Chun was born and raised in Honolulu. He and his wife, Deborah, have three children: Elliott, Sydney and Alex.
